Coming in at #24 is the Perdomo Inmenso Seventy Maduro Epicure. Back in the early 2000s when Nick Perdomo introduced a line called the Perdomo Inmenso. It was a line well ahead of its time, as it featured some very large ring gauge cigars. Over the past decade, large ring gauge cigars have earned a seat at the table in the cigar marketplace. 60-ring gauge cigars are a staple for many lines, and it’s not uncommon to see 70-ring gauge lines. Last year, Perdomo Cigars announced the return of the Perdomo Inmenso. It’s now being dubbed the Perdomo Inmenso Seventy because it’s a line that features all 70-ring gauge offerings in different lengths. The Perdomo Inmenso Seventy also has a revamped blend and an all-new look. It was released in two wrappers – Sun Grown and Maduro. It’s the Perdomo Inmenso Seventy Maduro in the Epicure (6 x 70) size that lands on this year’s Countdown.
The Perdomo Inmenso Seventy is produced at Tabacalera Perdomo is Estelí, Nicaragua. The blend for the Maduro is highlighted by a Nicaraguan Maduro wrapper over a binder and filler from Nicaragua. All of the tobaccos are grown on the Perdomo farms.
The Perdomo Inmenso Seventy Maduro Epicure produced notes of coffee, cedar, earth, cocoa, dried fruit, and black pepper. Most of the smoking experience delivers a medium-strength, medium-bodied profile. Toward the last third, the strength and body progress to medium to full.
This is Perdomo’s third consecutive appearance on a Cigar Coop Countdown. The Perdomo Inmenso Epicure Maduro is only the second 70-ring gauge cigar to get on a Cigar Coop Countdown. If you have been following our coverage so far, the Perdomo Inmenso Seventy Maduro Epicure is the fifth cigar from Nicaragua to land a spot.

2022 Cigar of the Year Countdown (Coop’s List): #25: Ferio Tego Elegancia (2021) (Audio)
Wednesday Dec 14, 2022
Wednesday Dec 14, 2022
Coming in at #25 is the Ferio Tego Elegancia. When Michael Herklots and Brendon Scott, formerly of Nat Sherman, launched Ferio Tego Cigars, a big part of the story was that Herklots and Scott had acquired the brands formerly owned by Nat Sherman International. The other side of the equation was that they would also be launching two cigars under the Ferio Tego name. Today we turn our attention to the Elegancia which cracks the Top 25.
The Ferio Tego Elegancia comes from the Quesada Factory, a longtime manufacturing partner. The blend consists of a shade-grown Ecuadorian wrapper over a blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos. The Elegancia comes from the Quesada's TABADEX factory located in the Dominican Republic. The Elegancia comes in one size - a 6 x 50 Toro.
The Ferio Tego Elegancia delivered a mix of vanilla, cream, citrus, cedar, hay, earth, and mixed pepper. The cigar delivers a nice amount of complexity. It's a dialed-back cigar delivering mild to medium flavors countered by mild strength. It's perhaps the fact that this cigar is on the milder side which works in favor of the experience.
This is Ferio Togo's first appearance on a Cigar Coop Countdown. It also is the first first-time company to land on the Countdown. For those keeping score, this is the second cigar thus far from the Dominican Republic to land on the 2022 Countdown.

Coming in at #26 is the La Aurora Fernando León Limited Edition Belicoso. Fernando León is a brand of La Aurora that pays homage to one of the all-time greats in the history, the late Don Fernando León. Don Fernando was the father of current La Aurora Cigars President Guillermo León and son of La Aurora founder Eduardo León Jimenes. 2022 was the centennial of Don Fernando's birth, but La Aurora decided in 2021 to put out a special limited edition cigar in anticipation of that big event - the Fernando León Limited Edition Belicoso.
Fernando León is a regular production line of cigars that has been in the La Aurora portfolio for over a decade. The La Aurora Fernando León Limited Edition Belicoso is a completely different blend than the Family Reserve. The blend is highlighted by an extra-aged Dominican-grown Corojo wrapper. The blend features an Ecuadorian binder and fillers from Peru, Nicaragua, and the Cibao Valley in the Dominican Republic. As with all La Aurora Cigars, it is produced at the company’s factory in the Dominican Republic. The Fernando León Limited Edition comes in one size - a 6 1/4 x 52 belicoso.
The Fernando León Limited Edition Belicoso delivered a straight-forward flavor profile of natural tobacco, wood, cedar, earth, and pepper. These flavors complemented each other very nicely. While it's a medium strength cigar, it was bolder when it came to the body coming in at medium to full.
For La Aurora this is the 5th time it has landed on the Countdown. If you are following along at home, this is the first Dominican made cigar to land on the 2022 Countdown.

The Smoking Syndicate Roundtable reconvenes tonight as we smoke Oliva’s Cuba Aliados by Ernesto Perez-Carrillo in the Torpedo size.
A year ago, Oliva stunned the cigar world indicating it was acquiring three Honduran brands from the Reyes family: Cuba Aliados, Puros Indios, and Roly. Just before the Trade Show, Oliva relaunched the Cuba Aliados brand and would stun the cigar world a second time by announcing it would be turning to two third-party factories to handle production of Cuba Aliados: Julio R. Eiroa’s Fabrica de Puros Aladino S.A. in Honduras and Ernesto Perez-Carrillo’s Tabacalera La Alianza in the Dominican Republic. Our attention for this show will be on Ernesto’s blend.
Cuba Aliados by Ernesto Perez-Carrillo is a limited production cigar with 10,000 boxes produced for 2022. It features an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and a combination of Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers
Tune in and find out what the Roundtable thinks of this release.

Coming in at #27 is the La Palina 125 Años. The story of La Palina Cigars is one that is well known. The brand was founded back in 1896 by Samuel Paley under his Congress Cigar Company. When Samuel retired in 1926, the La Palina brand pretty much retired with him. In 2010, the La Palina Cigars as we know it was resurrected by Samuel's grandson, William C. Paley. 2021 would mark 125 years since Samuel Paley founded the brand, therefore La Palina Cigars decided it would release a commemorative cigar to mark the occasion – and the La Palina 125 Años was born.
The La Palina 125 Años is the first La Palina offering to be produced out of TABOLISA, the factory owned by Oliva Cigar Company. The cigar consists of 100% Nicaraguan tobaccos. The cigar has been released in one size - a 6 1/2 x 52 Toro Extra. Originally the cigar was released in glass jars as limited release, but this past year it has been added as a core line offering under boxes with the same blend. While the blend is identical, it is worth noting we ranked this cigar from the 2021 offering (which under our criteria is eligible).
The La Palina 125 Años delivered a flavor profile of cedar, dank earth, chocolate, natural tobacco, fruit, and white pepper. This is something quite different than anything we've seen from La Palina before, but the flavors click. The flavors delivered are medium-bodied and countered by medium strength.
For La Palina this is the 5th time it has landed on the Countdown - and the company's first appearance since 2013. If you are following along at home, we have unveiled 4 cigars thus far on the Countdown and this is the fourth cigar to land on the Countdown produced out of Nicaragua.
