PCA 2022 Report: All Saints Cigars

While a lot was made of the launch of new companies by CAO alumni, Tim Ozgener and Rick Rodriguez, one must remember there is another CAO alumni who got a head start - and that's Micky Pegg. In 2020 Pegg and Frank Layo lauched All Saints Cigars and hit the ground running. Working with Rocky Patel's TAVICUSA factory, the company has brought four core lies to market with commercial success and critical acclaim. At this year's trade show, the company focused on some line extensions. With the line extensions added each of the four blends will have identical six-vitola offerings. In addition, the company announced a new partnership with Boveda where its boxes will ship with a Boveda humification pack inside.

PCA 2022 Report: Patina Cigars (Audio)

While Mo Maali and Patina Cigars have been coming to the Premium Cigar Association Trade Show for several years, this is actually the first time that Patina is launching a new cigar at the Trade Show. That cigar is the fourth regular production cigar, the Patina Sumatra.  Maali has focused his brand on regular production releases that are branded with Patina as he feels this is the best way to build brand awareness.  Patina once again was a part of the Sutliff Tobacco booth. Over the past couple of years, Sutliff has quietly been working with smaller cigar companies and handling distribution for these companies. It has created almost a trade show within a trade show at the booth.

In the interview Bear Duplisea did with Plasencia Cigars CEO Nestor Andrés Plasencia, Bear called Plasencia Cigars the hottest brand on the market – and he was 100% on the money. While the Plasencia family has been in the tobacco business since 1865, they have only had their own brand on the market since 2017. Since then this company has been on fire, and it has been demonstrated every year since the company launched at the 2017 Trade Show. 2022 was no exception as even though our team was at the booth an hour before the official opening of Day 3 of the Trade Show, it was still bustling with activity. This year Plasencia came to the PCA Trade Show with one line extension – this one to its popular Alma Fuerte Colorado line.

The Smoking Syndicate: Powstanie Wotjek 2021 (Audio)

The Powstanie Wotjek 2021 was released in November of 2021 and is the third release of the Wotjek or “War Bear” blend.  Each year it has been a different size and this year the Wotjek was released in a boxed press toro that features a barber pole using Ecuadorian Habano and San Andres Maduro wrapper leaf.  The binder features an Indonesian binder and fillers from Nicaragua.  The Wotjek is a cigar honoring the Polish resistance against Nazi Germany and particularly, a Syrian brown bear named….you guessed it, Wotjek.

PCA 2022 Report: Bellatto Premium Cigars - La Barba Cigars (Audio)

This has been a big year for Tony Bellatto. It commemorates both ten years of La Barba cigars and his father Gene's 50 years in the cigar business. While it's ten years for La Barba, Tony is getting ready for the next ten years as he is partnering with his father to form a new cigar company called Bellatto Premium Cigars. While he is forming a new company, Tony will shift his focus for new projects to Bellatto Premium Cigars. He will maintain his ownership in La Barba and will continue to produce his existing lines under that brand. Being this was a big year for the Bellatto family, there were several new releases - including three blends under Bellatto Premium Cigars and a new one under La Barba.
