PCA 2022 Report: Bellatto Premium Cigars - La Barba Cigars

This has been a big year for Tony Bellatto. It commemorates both ten years of La Barba cigars and his father Gene's 50 years in the cigar business. While it's ten years for La Barba, Tony is getting ready for the next ten years as he is partnering with his father to form a new cigar company called Bellatto Premium Cigars. While he is forming a new company, Tony will shift his focus for new projects to Bellatto Premium Cigars. He will maintain his ownership in La Barba and will continue to produce his existing lines under that brand. Being this was a big year for the Bellatto family, there were several new releases - including three blends under Bellatto Premium Cigars and a new one under La Barba.

PCA 2022 Report: JC Newman Cigar Company (Audio)

For the second year in a row, J.C. Newman Cigar Company brought the cardboard version of its El Reloj factory to the PCA Trade Show to serve as its booth. It's a stunning display that gives the feel of the El Reloj factory from both the inside and the outside. J.C. Newman makes cigars at El Reloj in Ybor City, Florida as well as at its J.C. Newman Puros de Estelí Nicaragua, S.A. factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. On top of that, the company works with Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia in the Dominican Republic for some of its brands. This year, J.C. Newman had offerings from all three factories, including a new line and two revamped lines.

PCA 2022 Report: Esteban Carreras (Audio)

There are three things that have been pretty much constant about Esteban Carreras Cigars: 1) The company tends to do one new release per year; 2) That release comes out at the PCA Trade Show; 3) The release is not unveiled until the Trade Show opens. All of those things applied to Esteban Carreras when it came to the company's 2022 release, Taken from the Devil's Hand. While one can say this pattern makes Esteban Carreras a creature of habit, the company does bring plenty of innovation to the table. This was demonstrated in 2022 as Taken from the Devil's Hand marks Esteban Carreras' first Corojo release. On top of that, there is a very cool back-story associated with this release.

It's been 13 years since Bill Paley resurrected the brand created by his grandfather Samuel Paley, La Palina. Over the years Paley has teamed up with some of the best factories in the world in many different countries to produce his products. While La Palina's history is often associated with the brands of his grandfather, Bill Paley is now carving his own place in history with his brand.  This year, while there wasn't a new brand, there were some exciting projects that returned - and other exciting projects that were tweaked.

PCA 2022 Report: Gurkha Cigars (Audio)

Over the years, Gurkha Cigars has been known for delivering some of the most ornate packaging in the industry. In recent years, Gurkha has been working to showcase themselves as delivering quality and innovative brands to the market. At the same time, Gurkha hasn't totally taken its foot off the pedal in terms of packaging. Gurkha has delivered its products in a few different ways: first tapping into the innovation capabilities of its key manufacturing partners; and second leveraging its heritage brands from the past. For its new 2022 releases, Gurkha would leverage from all of these angles.
