Monday Aug 08, 2022
Monday Aug 08, 2022
One of the new exhibitors at the 2022 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show is a company called Casa de Sueños. The company itself is not completely new, Casa de Sueños was formed by a group of cigar enthusiasts based in California called the LG Cigar Club. They hooked up with the De Los Reyes factory in the Dominican Republic to produce their brands. The name "Casa de Sueños" translates to House of Dreams which is appropriate for this group that fulfilled a dream of launching a cigar company. This year the company was a part of the family of companies that made up the De Los Reyes booth. It provided an opportunity for the brand to showcase their three lines: El Soñador, Fantasia and Angelito.

One of the big stories of the 2022 Trade Show was the return of Nicholas Melillo and Foundation Cigar Company to the PCA Trade Show. It was the first Trade Show for Melillo since 2019. Melillo had made the decision to skip the 2021 show, and of course the 2020 show was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since Melillo first brought Foundation Cigar to the Trade Show in 2015, his booth has always been one of the most active ones and this year was no exception. Our team was able to take advantage of early media access to meet with Melillo, and even then it was still a busy time for him. Melillo did not come empty handed as he had three new blends and several line extensions he introduced.

PCA 2022 Report: Rocky Patel Premium Cigars (Audio)

Looking back several years ago, it was not unusual for Rocky Patel Premium Cigars to release seven or more new lines at the IPCPR Trade Show. These numbers have been streamlined over the past couple of years. This year the company introduced two new lines at the Trade Show. Leading the pack would be The Edge 20th Anniversary – a line that had been promoted prior to the PCA 2022. The second, with details kept under wraps, is the Rocky Patel DBS. At the same time, Rocky Patel Premium Cigars has been on a roll – delivering some high quality products. This resulted in a #1 Cigar of the Year from Cigar Coop in 2021 with the Rocky Patel Winter Collection; and a Prime Time Award for Best Large-sized company. We would have the opportunity to present owner Rocky Patel these awards at PCA 2022.

PCA 2022 Report: Protocol Cigars (Audio)

For 2022, Protocol Cigars returned to having its own booth at the Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show after sharing the Espinosa Cigars booth the past few years. While Protocol Cigars has also had its own booth in the past, it was always in close proximity to the Espinosa booth. This year, Protocol was on the other end of the Trade Show floor. Protocol continues a very strong partnership with Espinosa and La Zona cigars. This year, there are a couple of new releases coming through the Espinosa/La Zona connection. One is the sixth installment of Protocol's core series, and the other is the fourth installment of the Protocol Lawman Series. Because the packaging was delayed, Protocol was unable to show the finished versions of these new releases at this year's Trade Show. At the same time, Protocol proudly displayed the eleven blends it currently makes.

To say the 2022 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show was a big one for Espinosa Cigars is an understatement. The company launched five limited edition cigars at the 2022 PCA, but there was so much more going on than just launching cigars. For starters, Espinosa brought celebrity restauranteur Guy Fieri to the Trade Show. Fieri was present on Day 2 of the Trade Show and everywhere he went, he drew a crowd. At the same time, Espinosa Cigars had a new cigar for Fieri it launched at the trade show. Secondly, Espinosa is celebrating not one, but two 10 year anniversaries: one for the company itself and one for its La Zona factory. Finally, if that wasn't enough, there were new installments to the ever-popular Las 6 Provincias and 601 La Bomba Warhead lines.
