PCA 2022 Report: La Flor Dominicana

Wednesday Aug 03, 2022
In 2022, La Flor Dominicana made a return to the Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show after skipping the 2021 show. There was a lot of excitement around La Flor Dominicana's return and you can see it in the faces of owner Litto Gomez, his family, his staff, and his customers. This year was a lot about the next generation as Litto's sons, Antonio "Tony" Gomez and Litto Gomez Jr. would bring the La Flor Dominicana Andalusian Bull Golden Bull and La Flor Dominicana Solis projects respectively. We had a chance to have some significant time with Litto Gomez, and we could clearly see his pride in the work his sons brought to the table as well as his excitement of being back at the Trade Show.

Cigar Coop has been covering the Trade Show since 2010, and every year Topper Cigars is a company we don't miss. There is a rich history with this family and owner Chris Topper is quite proud of it. A year ago, Topper Cigars showcased the Topper 125th Anniversary Cigar. However as many companies have encountered, there were delays in packaging. The good news is the cigar is due to ship to retailers this summer.

The name "United" truly applies to United Cigars. United has a portfolio of its own brands, brands on which it collaborates with other leading companies, and distribution agreements. If you read our 2022 PCR Pre-Game Coverage, United Cigars was my selection for "The Company" at the Trade Show. This is a pick that names the company poised to have a big Trade Show. There was little doubt after visiting United Cigars and the booth of one of the companies it distributes, Selected Tobacco, that this selection exceeded expectations. United also brings a portfolio that offers something for everybody - from value-priced to ultra-premium cigars.

PCA 2022 Report: De Los Reyes Cigars (Audio)
Monday Aug 01, 2022
Monday Aug 01, 2022
De Los Reyes Cigars did not have any new product at the 2022 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show. We interviewed company President Nirka Reyes to find out what the company has been up to. In addition to running the De Los Reyes cigar brand, Nirka heads up a tobacco processing operation that includes the De Los Reyes factory located in Santiago, Dominican Republic. That factory makes a host of third-party brands – and several of them were part of the De Los Reyes booth at PCA 2022. This year it included Debonaire House, Patoro Cigars, Topper Cigars, and a new addition to the booth – Casa de Suenos cigars.
Of its own brands, De Los Reyes is still focusing on its Saga and Don Julio brands. Nirka told us they generally release a new cigar only when they are satisfied they have the tobacco to use.
Finally, we typically don’t get involved in talking about booth layouts, but a lot has been made that this is the last year of the current Reyes booth. The Reyes booth essentially has two main features – a library that is used for the De Los Reyes brand; and for the other companies in the booth, the remaining space modeled after the De Los Reyes factory (which features signature pastel colors).

PCA 2022 Report: Selected Tobacco (Audio)

Monday Aug 01, 2022
At the 2022 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show, Selected Tobacco unveiled its biggest portfolio expansion since the brand first appeared at the 2012 IPCPR Trade Show in Orlando, FL. There are two new brands, several new lines, and some ultra-premium humidor offerings. The brands of Selected Tobacco are ultra-premium luxury brands. Selected Tobacco had a booth worth of being the home for such brands at the PCA Trade Show. Some called it a museum or an ultra-premium showroom. One can also make the argument that it was a combination of both. If you missed the Selected Tobacco booth and the products showcased in it, you truly missed something special at the Trade Show.

2022 marked the 10th anniversary when Christian Eiroa would launch CLE Cigar Company. It also marked the 10th anniversary of the Asylum Brand he partners with Tom Lazuka on. This year, CLE Cigar Company celebrated both milestones as well as Christian's 50th birthday. At the same time, there were plenty of releases on hand for attendees across the company's three brands: CLE, Eiroa, and Asylum Cigars. These releases included new PCA Exclusive Cigars, new anniversary cigars for Asylum, line extensions, and packaging changes.
