PCA 2022 Report: Selected Tobacco

At the 2022 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show, Selected Tobacco unveiled its biggest portfolio expansion since the brand first appeared at the 2012 IPCPR Trade Show in Orlando, FL. There are two new brands, several new lines, and some ultra-premium humidor offerings. The brands of Selected Tobacco are ultra-premium luxury brands. Selected Tobacco had a booth worth of being the home for such brands at the PCA Trade Show. Some called it a museum or an ultra-premium showroom. One can also make the argument that it was a combination of both. If you missed the Selected Tobacco booth and the products showcased in it, you truly missed something special at the Trade Show.

PCA 2022 Report: CLE Cigar Company (CLE, Eiroa, Asylum) (Audio)

2022 marked the 10th anniversary when Christian Eiroa would launch CLE Cigar Company. It also marked the 10th anniversary of the Asylum Brand he partners with Tom Lazuka on. This year, CLE Cigar Company celebrated both milestones as well as Christian's 50th birthday. At the same time, there were plenty of releases on hand for attendees across the company's three brands: CLE, Eiroa, and Asylum Cigars. These releases included new PCA Exclusive Cigars, new anniversary cigars for Asylum, line extensions, and packaging changes.

Oveja Negra Brands is an umbrella for four brands: Black Label Trading Company, Black Works Studio, Emilio Cigars, and Dissident Cigars. James and Angela Brown own three of the brands while the fourth brand, Dissident, is owned by Joshua and Cynn Coburn. As it has since 2019, the Oveja Negra Brands booth had four corners - each dedicated to one of the brands. This year, Oveja Negra Brands had more of a focus on the Emilio brand as it had two new offerings. There were also new offerings under Black Works Studio and Dissident. Meanwhile, a couple of favorites return to Black Label Trading Company.

PCA 2022 Report: Crowned Heads/Ozgener Family Cigars (Audio)

When it comes to the Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show, Crowned Heads has been a staple for over a decade. Every year, when it comes to visiting the Crowned Heads booth, the reaction coming out of it has pretty much always been “Crowned Heads had a great show”. This is with good reason – because the company has delivered time and time again with compelling products and the stories behind them. 2022 was no exception to the “great show” outcome. This year, Crowned Heads not only shared a booth with its strategic partner Ace Prime, but also with Tim Ozgener’s new Ozgener Family Cigars company. In addition, Ozgener is reunited with his former CAO alumni as not only is Crowned Heads heads handling Ozgener’s distribution, but Tim Ozgener himself is now a partner in Crowned Heads. In addition to the strong three-way alliance Crowned Heads has with Ace Prime and Ozgener Family Cigars, the company introduced two new products to market, including an exclusive cigar to 2022 PCA Trade Show attendees. Perhaps nobody brings a story to a cigar like Jon Huber, and this year was no exception.

For Ace Prime Cigars’ third PCA/IPCPR Trade Show, the company shared a booth with Crowned Heads and the newly launched Ozgener Family Cigars.  While Crowned Heads serves as the distribution hub for the three companies, Ace Prime’s Tabacalera Pichardo has emerged as the production hub. Tabacalera Pichardo is doing production for Ozgener Family Cigars, and in the past couple of years has been picking up a lot more production for Crowned Heads. At the same time, Ace Prime has been quietly building up a solid portfolio. This year was perhaps the best for Ace Prime as the company launched Mas Igneus and the PCA Exclusive Maria Lucia. Both garnered acclaim for the samples that have been given out, and this demonstrates the emergence of Ace Prime co-owner Luciano Meirelles as one of the rising stars in the world of blending. When you talk to Meirelles, one thing is very clear – Luciano Meirelles loves tobacco.
