PCA 2021: La Galera Cigars (Audio)

From the 2021 PCA Trade Show, we talk to Jochy Blanco and José Manuel Blanco of La Galera Cigars.

One of the most exciting 2021 PCA Trade Show booth visits our team had was visiting La Galera Cigars. La Galera Cigars is the brand owned by Jochy Blanco. This year would mark one of the most exciting years for La Galera since the brand launched. First up, the company has a cigar line to mark the 85th anniversary of its factory Tabacalera Palma called the La Galera 85th Anniversary. It’s a project that was a collaboration between Jochy and his son, José Manuel Blanco. Second, the company has added its first Cameroon cigar under the La Galera brand known as the La Galera Imperial Jade. Our team got to speak to the father and son duo, and they were beaming with excitement on what they had to offer at this year’s trade show. We also believe this is the first (or one of the first) on-camera interview in cigar media that featured both Jochy and José Manuel.

PCA 2021: Tarazona Cigars (Audio)

From the 2021 PCA Trade Show, we talk to Eddie Tarazona of Cigars.

The past couple of years has seen some interesting moves made by Eddie Tarazona and Tarazona Cigars. It started a couple of years ago with the launch of the Caraballo brand, a brand named for Eddie's business partner Mario Carabello. Despite a pandemic, Tarazona has doubled-down hiring by two senior positions in Willy Marante for Vice President of Sales and Marketing and Ben Rosario as Vice President of International Sales and Development. The company also expanded its in-house field sales staff, and made a significant financial donation to the PCA war chest. Meanwhile, from a product innovation standpoint, Tarazona would showcase two ultra-premium artesian limited edition products at this year's Trade Show.

Reinier Lorenzo's HVC Cigars is a company that has quietly gone from one of the best kept secrets to one of the hottest small companies in the premium cigar business. Because for a while it was a company that flew under the radar, many were surprised that 2021 marks HVC's tenth anniversary. At this year's trade show the company introduced a distinct cigar that features a special tobacco to mark the occasion. Meanwhile, HVC also introduced a line extension to its Hot Cake line called Gran Cañon - marking HVC's first 60-ring gauge cigar.

Oscar Valladares is quietly becoming a power player in the premium cigar industry. Not only does he have his own brand and factory in Honduras, but now he owns several major tobacco farms in Honduras. When it comes to his brand, Valladares is not only creating excellent brands, but he has found a way to incorporate artwork in a unique way to reflect the themes of his cigar. After not releasing a new blend in 2020, Valladares and his company come into the 2021 Premium Cigar Association with a new blend that is a sequel of sorts to the popular Oscar Valladares Super Fly line.
