PCA 2021: Plasencia Cigars (Audio)

From the 2021 PCA Trade Show, we talk to Nestor Andrés Plasencia of Plasencia Cigars.

One of the companies that could lay claim to the busiest booth at the Trade Show is Plasencia Cigars. Plasencia’s booth has been like this since the company launched at the 2017 Trade Show and 2021 was no different. This was a booth bustling with a high level activity all week. It was so busy that we didn’t know if we would get a chance to interview anyone from the booth. With a little patience, we were able to get a few minutes with CEO Nestor Andrés Plasencia at the booth. The interview might look like we found an area where it wasn’t crowded, but that was courtesy of the excellent camera work of Ben Lee that was able to give us some good framing. Nestor Andrés was excited as ever to talk about his brand’s newest project, the Plasencia Cosecha 149 and demonstrate the use of Plasencia’s innovative new smart chip cigar bands.

Prime Time Jukebox Episode 46 Audio: Anthony Bourdain's Playlist

The documentary Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain has been released. Director Morgan Neville assembled together a playlist of music he found from Bourdain’s books, interviews, social media, and more. Tonight, we take a look at that music and how it ties back to the life and times of the late Anthony Bourdain. We’ll be joined by RoMa Craft Tobac’s Skip Martin and John McTavish of Developing Palates.

We will also pay homage to the late Dusty Hill of ZZ Top, Joey Jordison of Slipknot, and Dennis Thomas from Kool & The Gang.

For this show, Skip smokes the Casa Torres 20 Anos Gran Robusto, John smokes the Baka Hunter Gatherer, Dave smokes the Neanderthal C3, and Coop smokes the Neanderthal GD.

From the 2021 PCA Trade Show, we talk to Henderson Ventura of ADVentura Cigars.

ADVentura Cigars is the premium cigar brand owned by Henderson Ventura of Tabacalera William Ventura and Marcel Knobel. This year, ADVentura was one of nine cigar companies that exhibited in the Sutliff Tobacco pipe booth. Over the past 18 months, Sutliff has quietly been bringing on smaller cigar companies to handle its distribution. Each of the companies had a mini kiosk to showcase its products. In a way, the Sutliff Tobacco booth brought back the vibe of the old House of Emilio booth from 2014.

PCA 2021: AJ Fernandez Cigar Company (Audio)

From the 2021 PCA Trade Show, we talk to AJ Fernandez of AJ Fernandez Cigar Company.

AJ Fernandez Cigar Company was one of the cigar companies that "held the line" and didn't focus on introducing new products. While some may be disappointed one can also look at it as a positive sign. For years, many companies like Padrón, Oliva, and Arturo Fuente have not introduced new product and have had excellent trade shows. This was indeed an excellent Trade Show for AJ Fernandez Cigar Company. Yes, the company downsized the booth but it also maintained the look of professionalism and allowed for the products to be showcased and for orders to be taken.

PCA 2021: Coles of London / S.T. Dupont

From the 2021 PCA Trade Show, we talk to Michael O'Grady of Coles of London.

Coles of London may be a company many cigar enthusiasts are not familiar with. Earlier this year, Coles of London would take over the U.S. distribution for S.T. Dupont products from Davidoff of Geneva. Coles of London was already distributing S.T. Dupont's pen business, so adding S.T. Dupont's cigar accessories was a logical fit. What was quite clear was there was a lot of excitement and enthusiasm at being at the 2021 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show from the Coles of London team - as well as some exciting new offerings.
